Multi-branched Hydrating Surfactant

General Details

PBS150 is a long-term surfactant utilizing a unique multi-branched molecular structure to address the source of performance loss – biodegradation of the surfactant molecule by soil microbes. PBS150 sustains a longer uniform soil moisture profile. PBS150 has proven it will:

  • Reduce hydrophobic conditions on a sustainable basis for 5 months or more
  • Encourage a pattern of hydration and re-hydration that improves the amount of available water in the soil profile to meet the metabolic demands of the plant
  • Restore the uniform movement of water into and through the soil matrix
  • Promote improvement in turfgrass quality, color, and uniformity
  • Improve stress tolerance

Application Rates

Liquid:

Fairways and Tees:
Apply two applications 15 days apart of 5 ounces per 1,000 ft2 (16 L per hectare).
Extended Season Control – If evaluation of climatic conditions forecasts the formation of water repellency conditions, reapply at a rate of 3 – 6 ounces per 1,000 ft2.

Bunker Faces and Roughs:
Apply two applications 7 to 10 days apart of 8 ounces per 1,000 ft2 (25 L per hectare). Reapply after 120 to 150 days, or as needed, if climatic conditions still exist for the formation of water repellency conditions.

Granular:

Fairways and Tees:
Apply three applications 30 days apart of 2.5 lbs per 1000 ft2 (120 kg per hectare). Reapply after 120 to 150 days, or as needed, if climatic conditions still exist for the formation of water repellency conditions.

Bunker Faces and Roughs:
Single Application: (60 to 75 days active)
Apply 4 lbs per 1000 ft2 (200 kg per hectare). Reapply after 75 days, or as needed, if climatic conditions still exist for the formation of water repellency conditions.

Split Application: (90 to 150 days active)
Apply two applications 7 to 10 days apart of 4 lbs per 1000 ft2 (200 kg per hectare). Reapply after 150 days, or as needed, if climatic conditions still exist for the formation of water repellency conditions.

Evaluation of two commercially available wetting agents on soil moisture management

Evaluation Time Frame:
March 18, 2017 to July 14, 2017, 119 Days

Treatments:
Trials were conducted on a fairway with a soil consistency of 70% Sand and 30% soil.  Two applications were made at label recommendations of PBS 150 – Regenerating Multi-Branch Surfactant at 2 applications at 5 oz per 1000 square feet.   Compared to 2 applications made to same fairway area of Industry leading modified/methyl – caped block copolymer surfactant at 2 applications at 6 oz per 1000 square feet.

Evaluation:
Evaluation of PBS 150 Regenerating Branched Surfactant and Industry Leading Modified/Methyl-Caped Block Copolymer Turf Surfactant on Soil Moisture Management of an L-93 Creeping Bentgrass Fairway Grown on a 70/30 Construction Mix.  Target moisture rate was desired at 22% Volumetric Water Content, Rewetting of the matrix occurred once 15% Volumetric Water Content was measured. Both measurements were completed using a Spectrum TDR 300 Moisture meter.  The dry down was initiated on May 19, 2017.

Conclusion:
PBS 150 pots required 46% less water than the control pots maintained at 22% VWC.

46% less water is equivalent to 1,057,800 gallons of savings for 25 acres of fairways in an 8 week period
PBS 150 outperformed the industry leading surfactant for saving water by 26.6% and required less watering cycles than the control.
